A Knight of the Void

So this was when I saw the movie Gravity” and Sandra Bullock, as the astronaut Dr. Ryan Stone, gets stuck in space following a tragedy, with no way back home. The International Space Station destroyed by floating debris, and her crewmates killed, the scene brought to my mind the word “despair” that I probably hadn't encountered since Ozymandias in 9th grade. Stories have rarely made me feel what this one did and now I look out for the theme of extreme adversity when picking a movie or book. Later I would go on to see another wonderful piece of space fiction Passengers where Chris Pratt finds himself living the loneliest existence a human could, and Cast Away where Tom Hanks lives it out in the middle of the Pacific, and each time I was reminded of Ryan's plight. However, over ether or water, each of these stories end on happy notes. All protagonists find their destiny. I hope you, the reader, find yours too.

Do paint yourself a picture in mind, as Alfonso Cuarón did when writing the story for Gravity

I had this image of an astronaut spinning into space away from human communication.”

fighting the darkness, at tremendous height
seeking the blue, enjoying the white

calling her mother
reaching for a bond with her
in serenity of space
where sound is inexistent
existence a hope
identity is a joke
and life unknown

neither end nor start

still our knight does not cry
she has a big heart

stars wondered upon when naive
seemed closer than ever
little knight was very brave
she has grown up to shine
as one among them

if need be, she will stay among them

but playtime is over
and she looks around
a friend has arrived to take her home
she takes his hand and sighs

cries with happiness slowly..
as mother gets closer

Ofcourse my little pome does no justice to this wonderful movie. You can watch the trailer here on Youtube and decide for yourselves.
